Leverage

back to all videos

Mountain biking is often taught as if getting low and bending your arms and legs is always the answer.

But what if the thing you are trying to do is not absorb force...

but transfer it?

When we want to create grip, pump terrain, brake aggressively or drive pressure through a turn, our body can work like a system of levers.

And the difference between absorbing your own effort and transferring it into the bike can be enormous.

In this episode, we explore how body height, limb position, gravity and leverage interact — and why some of the most powerful movements on a bike can feel effortless when you stop trying to manufacture them with muscle.

This is the beginning of what I like to call:

Lazy mountain biking.

Using your body weight, timing and gravity to do the work instead of constantly fighting the bike.

Because sometimes we need to bend and absorb.

Sometimes we need to do the opposite.

The skill is knowing which one the trail is asking for.
