Welcome to THE
If you’ve spent any time on a mountain bike — whether as a rider, a coach, or someone who’s taken lessons before — you’ve probably heard a lot of familiar advice.
Things like:

And the list goes on…
Many of these tips are useful, but at some point, most riders begin to notice something. You follow the advice, it worked on the lesson, but when the terrain gets steeper, faster, or more unpredictable — things start to fall apart.
So the real question becomes:
Why do these cues work and why do they stop working?... What is the physics behind them?
Take something as simple as “light hands.”
When should your hands be light? — and when do they need to be firm and weighted?
How can you push, pump, or drive the bike through a corner if you’re trying to keep your hands light the whole time? At a certain point, you need to understand WHICH PHYSICAL FORCES you are encountering in each given moment, and how to manage them.
An intuitive rider can feel what’s happening and respond automatically — but often that same intuitive rider can’t explain what they’re feeling to another person who is NOT feeling intuitive!
So how do you break riding down into small, repeatable experiences — drills, reference points, and cause-and-effect explanations — so anyone can find the root issue, gain control, and hold onto clear, precise "reference points" as the bike moves through rough, uneven ground, under braking, and in turns?
MTB Skills Method™ has been developed to teach exactly this.
This programme is built for riders and coaches who are already familiar with mountain biking — and want to go deeper.
It doesn’t replace what you already know.
It adds layers of understanding to it.
The MTB Skills Method™ equips coaches and rider's with the tools to recognise weaknesses, understand the mechanical causes behind them, and uses drills and explanations that resolve the issue at its source, delivering a higher-quality, more professional learning experience.
This series has been developed over more than two decades of coaching thousands of mountain bikers of all levels, all ages, and from all over the world. Now, we’re bringing it online so that anyone, anywhere, can access it.
This method is laid out in the order we recommend you learn it;
As you explore the episodes, you’ll see they are grouped into sections with each skill building on the previous one. In our Method, each layer builds on the last, helping you develop a much deeper and more complete understanding of how the bike works. If you’re already an experienced mountain biker, you may choose to focus on specific areas then explore the other content later. But we strongly recommend looking closely at:
Braking
Question Mark cornering
Pumping and jumping
After more than 20 years of working with World Cup and Olympic athletes, these are often the areas where the biggest gains are made for expert riders. Be aware that many advanced riders have highly developed technical skills, but gaps in the core foundation, so don’t rush to assume you already understand these concepts.
One of the key differences in this method is that we go beyond “just what to do”'—we explain why it works. We dive deeply into the physics of each skill: how, when, and why to apply it. Every technique has its place—and part of becoming a better rider is understanding “when” to use each one.
We hope you enjoy the process. This has been a two-decade labour of love, and we’re incredibly proud to now share it with riders around the world.
