Introducing Cornering
Cornering is where mountain biking starts to feel really good!
Fast.
Fluid.
Effortless.
And when it goes wrong... it usually goes wrong very quickly!
Almost all riders are looking for better cornering technique — the right body position, the right line, the right foot, the right amount of lean.
But what if there isn’t just one?
A steep dropping turn does not ask the same thing from you as a supportive berm.
And a dry, loose flat corner may need something completely different again.
That is why cornering can feel so inconsistent: the technique that worked perfectly in one turn may be completely wrong for the next.
In this introduction, we begin breaking corners into different problems and look at why braking, front-wheel grip, line choice and body position need to be layered in a particular order.
Because good cornering is not about memorising one perfect stance.
It is about recognising what kind of corner is in front of you — and knowing which tools it actually needs...
