AFFILIATED MTB COACHES
The dedicated
Professional Development Pathway
delivered in two progressive modules:

Coach Affiliation
Full Technical Development Pathway
The Coach Affiliation is delivered in two separate modules and represents the complete MTB Skills™ Method framework to date — with ongoing expansion as the library continues to evolve. This pathway is designed as advanced "Professional Development" to complement existing coaching certifications such as GSMBC, PMBIA, or equivalent recognised programmes. It does not replace foundational qualifications; instead, it deepens and strengthens them by expanding a coach’s mechanical understanding and diagnostic capability.
Together, the two modules form a structured, layered system designed to build technical clarity from foundational stability through to advanced cornering, pumping, and jumping.
The content is extensive and intentionally progressive.
Each section includes:
• Video demonstrations
• Concept explanations
• Diagrams and visual breakdowns
• Coaching language examples
• Structured drill progressions
• Common mistake analysis and troubleshooting
• Video analysis training
Four full practical training days are delivered per module, embedding the material in real terrain and ensuring coaches can apply the framework confidently and precisely.
Module 1 – Stability, Braking, Absorption & Cornering Foundations
This module builds the mechanical base. It focuses on braking, load management, centre control, and foundational cornering principles.
Core Content Includes:
• Introduction & Framework Overview
• Finding Centre and reference points
• Stability
• Bike Set-Up Essentials, includes specifics for Women's fit
• Braking System & Set of Drills
• Straight Arms & Leverage Discussion
• Braking for Control on Steep Terrain
• Balance on Uphill Terrain & Humps - essential for jumping
• Absorption and the Seesaw Position
• Cornering Stage I – Foundations of weight distribution
• Intro to Cornering
• Keeping Weight on the Front
• Cornering Stage II – Initiating the lean
• Line Choice
Module 2 – Advanced Cornering, Off-camber, Pumping & Jumping
This module builds into higher speed, advanced terrain interaction, and dynamic bike control.
• Cornering Stage II – Initiating the lean and
• Applied in Berms
• Applied in Dropping Turns
• Applied in Loose Unsupported Turns
• Applied in Squaring Off a Corner
• Applied in Off-Camber Turns
• Slalom turns on the Flat
• Rises on Entry
• Cornering Stage III - feet level or dropped
• Slides & Skids
• Dropping the Outside Foot
• Pumping & Terrain Interaction
• Pumping Fundamentals
• The “Pump-Jump”
• Where and When to Use the Pump-Jump
• Jump & Air Awareness
• Flat Jumps, Drops & Steps

The sheer depth of this content allows coaches to revisit, refine, and continuously elevate their understanding. The library remains accessible without expiry and continues to evolve as the framework develops further.
This pathway is designed for coaches who want to understand not just how to teach a skill — but how and why it works mechanically.
